Leaning Tower of Pisa
The famously lopsided Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of Italy’s most recognisable landmarks. Located in Pisa’s Cathedral Square along with the accompanying Duomo and Baptistry, it is one of the country’s most photographed tourist attractions.
Statue of David
Michelangelo’s much replicated Statue of David stands in the Accademia Gallery in Florence. History buffs, art aficionados and everyone in between will be inspired by the detail of this incredible marble monument – don’t be deceived by the imitation in Piazza della Signoria, make sure to go and see the genuine article.
Carnival of Viareggio
The seaside town of Viareggio is highly regarded throughout Italy for its electric summer celebrations. Each year a series of festivals takes place in the area, the highlight being Carnevale di Viareggio – a flamboyant display of floats and entertainment that comprise several days of merriment.
Puccini Opera Festival
Every year the small village of Torre del Lago near Viareggio lights up in celebration of its most famous resident: Giacomo Puccini. Outdoor performances of the composer’s most famous operas are held by the lake throughout July and August each year.
